Better Sources of Entertainment for Our Children

Spread the love

Believe me when I say that I have never been a believer in watching television as a form of entertainment when there are so many lovely books that enlighten your mind to problems, issues, and arguments of the world. If you’re not careful about what you do with time, you could spend too much time watching television shows all day. Instead of watching so much television, you could pick up a book to learn about the world around you.

If you’re not careful, you’ll spend your days, and nights in front of a flickering screen, going blind. It’s a fact that the screens aren’t good to stare at for long periods of time. I’ve been telling my children that they’re better off going to see animals at the zoo than watch them on television. I’d rather that they take their chances getting sunburns outside than waste their minds away in front of television screens. I like to push them to get involved in programs at their school, like the AV club I was part of when I went to high school. That club helped set me up with a distinct set of skills that I use as an adult.

The audiovisual world has completely changed since I was a child. When I was in high school, the club we met in after class involved soldering, and some basic computer use. Children today need to know more about how electronics work to be involved in serious pursuits. There’s plenty of room to explore in this field, so I do encourage my children to consider computer science as a major when they get to college, but they still have some time to consider their options.

We try to push them into more educational pursuits as part of their after school programming. I’m not sure how helpful being on a sports team is for their development, but I suppose sports does teach our children about the value of teamwork. You can’t get far in life without certain values like teamwork. We found some entertaining programs for the children to get involved in outside of school as well. There are many High School Science Programs Denver Co that meet with children to help them understand certain scientific principles. They learn plenty of scientific principles in school, but their classes only take things so far. The after school programs help build upon what they learn in school.

When our children grow up they’re going to thank us for giving them a chance to stand out in the crowd. There are so many competitive career paths that are hard to get into, so they will need the extra edge to beat their competition later on. When they get older, they’ll find out the value of reading, education, and studying. These things might seem difficult now, but they become easier with practice. The more time you spend behind the pages of a good book, the easier it will be to visit that book again when you need it.
